Bremen

We made a one day stop in Bremen.

I made Dave get up early so I could do a parkrun. Technically Dave did the Parkrun too but I run so slowly he can walk most of it with me. The Bremen course is a lovely flat course of two laps around a lake. Despite this I still managed a personal worst time. I blame the heat and not the 11am coffees and pastries we have have become accustomed to.

We then cycled into Bremen centre and had lunch, an excellent flammkuchen. We saw a climate change protest as we were walking around.

We went to find the musicians of Bremen. The Town Musicians of Bremen is an old fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grim. It tells the story of four aging domestic animals, who after a lifetime of hard work are neglected and mistreated by their former masters. Eventually, they decide to run away and become town musicians in the city. Contrary to the story’s title the characters never actually arrive in Bremen, as they succeed in tricking and scaring off a band of robbers, capturing their spoils, and moving into their house. Bremen loves them, there are several statues around the city centre.

Musicians of Bremen

We really enjoyed a gentle stroll in the sunshine admiring the old town and its beautiful buildings. But we had places to be.

Another place to add to the list of places we want to come back to. We are racing west for a race…
